Hello, I'm Aika

And welcome to my website!

As a clinical psychologist, my passion lies in helping people better understand themselves and navigate the complexities of being human. Alongside my clinical practice, I enjoy exploring psychology beyond the therapy room through writing, illustration, education, research, and consultancy.

Some of these projects have grown into resources used internationally, across public and private healthcare settings, while others have simply been ways of creating things I enjoy and exploring questions about human life that I find interesting.

This website brings together my clinical services, professional background, and a collection of projects I've worked on along the way.

A little bit about me

I was born and raised in Hong Kong before moving to the UK for university. I spent over a decade living, studying, training, and working across Cambridge, Oxford, and London. In 2024, I made the leap to the Middle East and now live and work in Doha.

I consider myself a third-culture kid, or perhaps a cultural floater. Outside of work, I have my fingers in many pies. I love vinyasa yoga, reading, writing, art, making bracelets, running, and most recently, dabbling in a bit of kitesurfing (still terrible at it).

I have a deep interest in Eastern spiritual traditions, philosophy and meditation practice, Jungian psychology, and existential philosophy. Basically, I genuinely love exploring all the weird and wonderful ways people have tried to make sense of being human.

Work with me

I offer high-quality, bespoke psychological therapy for adults, adolescents (14+), couples and families. My approach is integrative, drawing on a range of therapeutic approaches and tailoring them to what is most useful and meaningful to you.

My approach is friendly, down-to-earth and, when needed, direct. I care about understanding you as a person, not just the difficulties you're experiencing. I'm not afraid to challenge you when I think there's room to grow. The aim isn't simply to help you feel better, but to help you understand yourself, make meaningful changes and become your own go-to person, long after our work together has ended.

I frequently work with high-functioning, internationally mobile individuals, particularly those navigating major life changes and pressures, internal conflicts, relationship difficulties and/or other serious challenges.

I also provide ADHD assessments for adults, clinical supervision, career coaching, and work with founders in the mental health space.

For Personal Difficulties

I have experience working with a wide range of psychological difficulties. I use an integrative approach, drawing primarily on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioural therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and Eye Movement Desensitiation Reprocessing (EMDR). I also blend my personal interests in humanistic, Jungian and existential and eastern philosophy approaches.

Issues I work with may include:

  • Shame, self-criticism, perfectionism and social anxiety
  • Anxiety, panic, OCD and phobias
  • Depression, stress and burnout
  • Major life transitions, relocation and identity questions
  • Difficulties from being third-culture, cultural-floater, internationally-mobile
  • PTSD, complex trauma and dissociative experiences
  • Relationship difficulties, e.g. communication, people-pleasing, conflict and infidelity

Many of the people I work with do not fit neatly into a diagnosis, but feel that they are struggling nonetheless. You do not need to know exactly what is wrong before coming to therapy. We can work together to understand what is going on and what you need.

For Couples and Relational Difficulties

Relationships can bring out some of our deepest hopes, fears, and patterns. My approach draws on evidence-based couples therapy (e.g. integrative behavioural couples therapy) alongside my wider training. I aim to help couples better understand the patterns they can get caught in, make space for each other's experiences, and find more constructive ways of relating to one another.

I work with couples who are navigating:

  • Recurring conflict and communication difficulties
  • Disconnection and loss of desire
  • Differences in needs or expectations
  • Infidelity and/or major transitions in their relationship

I often work with couples from different cultural backgrounds, including mixed-culture and internationally mobile couples, where questions of identity, family, values, belonging, and long-distance can trigger and perpetuate relational fragmentation.

For Self-Improvement and Self-Actualisation

Therapy is not only about dealing with difficulties or overcoming barriers. I am also passionate about helping high-functioning people explore themselves, develop their potential, and build a life that feels meaningful and aligned with their values.

Areas I work with may include:

  • Self-development, exploration and personal growth
  • Increasing self-acceptance and authenticity
  • Integrating one's spirituality and religion into everyday life
  • Values-based living and finding greater meaning
  • Exploring alternative and unconventional ways of living
  • Leadership, entrepreneurship, and navigating the demands of ambitious work

For Mental Health Professionals & Aspiring Psychologists

I love supporting others in the mental health field to reach their fullest potential. Areas I work with include traditional clinical supervision, as well as helping with career and personal development goals. This includes (but is not limited to):

  • Entering and navigating the mental health and psychology field
  • Balancing professional demands, and personal interests and growth
  • Moving into private practice, working abroad
  • Social media and personal branding

Other Projects & Collaborations

Something I value in life is exploration and creativity, including the freedom to work beyond what a job title might traditionally suggest. Projects I've worked on have included mental health tech consultancy, article writing, media projects, animations, workshops and interviews. If you're interested in working with me on a project, please get in touch via the Contact Page.
